Miley Cyrus is sixteen years old...

...and already has a successful music and television career. Now I see that she has a movie coming out tomorrow. Good for her; she seems like a really nice kid. But a kid nonetheless. Okay, maybe a teenager, but 16 is not the same as 18 or 21. So why does she have a 21-year-old boyfriend? And why did she have that ridiculous photo spread in Vanity Fair last year? Why is she in such a big hurry to grow up? And where are her parents? Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Her father is Billy Ray Cyrus, the famous musician. That's even worse. He should know better after having spent his entire adult life in show business. Hasn't he ever heard of Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan? Isn't he aware of the perils of growing up in the public eye? What's wrong with him? At least other child stars had stage mothers that lived out their frustrated lives vicariously through their child prodigies. What's his excuse? Doesn't he have enough fame and fortune already?

I hope Miley Cyrus turns out just fine. After all, Brooke Shields and Jodie Foster certainly did. But child stardom is not always easy to navigate. I sure hope her father knows what he's doing.
