...opened to much fanfare this past weekend at 10 a.m. on Saturday. It's a harbinger of Spring and a tradition that the first person of the season served gets his picture taken and displayed for all to see. People take pride in it and I have to admit I'm always a little jealous. In recent years, however, the competition has gotten quite keen as people have resorted to camping out overnight on the sidewalk. This year, four freshman from the local high school pitched their tent a full 24 hours ahead of the opening for the honor of being the first served. One little girl decided to celebrate her 8th birthday Sunday by camping out with her father after school on Friday. She planned to order an orange sorbet dipped in key lime syrup. "I don't like to wait in really long lines" Saturday morning, she said.
Now I have to admit I think that's a little crazy. She and her father ought to have their heads examined. Who ever heard of dipping orange sorbet in key lime syrup?
