In Virginia a deeply-flawed Democratic candidate defeated a tea party-backed Republican for governor and in Alabama -- Alabama -- an establishment Republican beat back a challenge from a tea party candidate in a special primary election for a seat in the U. S. House of Representatives.
In other news, a conservative newspaper announced it would stop publishing the weekly column of a high-profile tea party senator due to charges of plagiarism while the Illinois House sent a bill allowing same-sex marriage to the governor's desk.
