Lloyd McKim Garrison, a descendant of the 19th-century abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison, was born in Manhattan on May 26, 1931. His father, Lloyd K. Garrison, was a Wall Street lawyer who became dean of the University of Wisconsin’s law school. His mother, Ellen Jay Garrison, a descendant of John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States, was a trustee of the John Jay Homestead in Bedford, N.Y., and took a small role in the Woody Allen film “Zelig” (1983) as a lark.
