Got plans for August 31?

Break 'em!

Mount Carmel opens the 2014 season against St. Joseph's Prep of Philadelphia, above. The Caravan, the defending 7A champions, host the defending 4A (big school) champs of Pennsylvania at 12:00 at Toyota Park* in Bridgeview. You gotta be there!

The Hawks, coached by Gabe Infante, were 13-3 last year en route to a come-from-behind 35-10 victory in the finals over previously unbeaten Pittsburgh Central Catholic.

From the Phanatic Magazine (my emphasis):

It was a masterful performance, with 28 straight points in the second half against the top-ranked defense in PA, after being down 10-7 at intermission. Their 21 fourth-quarter points set a record for the Quad A title game, which had been 19 for Central Bucks West back in 1991.

According to several sites dialed into the high school game, the Prep endured the toughest schedule of any school, and passing through the gauntlet provided the greatest reward.

Hoo boy! Mount Carmel coach Frank Lenti had better have his team prepared.

* While you're there, check out the St. Ignatius - Walter Payton game at 3:00. The Wolfpack has a new coach, John O'Connor from Mount Carmel. And what the heck, you might as well stick around for the St. Rita - Simeon game at 6:00, too. (I'll buy you a hot dog if I see you.)
