...on Saturday, Loyola is hosting Glenbard North in Wilmette. The contest will feature the winner of the Catholic League Blue against a 9-3 team from the DuPage Valley Conference.
To review, the Ramblers beat Montini (I was there), Providence, Mount Carmel (I was there), Brother Rice and St. Rita before defeating Lyons Township last week. (Never mind the cupcakes on Loyola's schedule, the Ramblers outscored those six teams, 172-67.)
Glenbard North has beaten Naperville North, Barrington, Palatine and Stevenson. But the Panthers lost to DVC powers Naperville Central (still competing), Wheaton Warrenville South (still competing) and Wheaton North.
Rambler quarterback Malcolm Weaver, above, can pass as well as run. The 6'0", 175-pound senior has several talented receivers to choose from, including Charlie Dowdle, Marquese Martin-Hayes, Dylan Brennan and Conner Person. But the forecast for Saturday is rain, so Loyola may have to rely more on running backs William Palivos and Reed Michalek.
Foul weather may level the playing field a bit as Glenbard North relies more on the running game. The Jackson brothers, Phil and Justin, may remind Rambler fans of that other one-two punch, Martez and Andrew Walker (no relation), of Brother Rice. (Loyola won that game, 20-13.)
The Wilmette squad has the better defense and the better team over all. The Ramblers are headed for Champaign to play the winner of the Bolingbrook-Naperville Central game.
BOWG prediction: Loyola 28, Glenbard North 7.
