Homewood-Flossmoor High School...

...was founded in 1959 when I was a year old. Not much has happened there since, although H-F is the proud alma mater of Cathleen Crowell Webb, who was famous in the 1980s for accusing Gary Dotson of rape and then recanting. (The story was in the news for months.) H-F also lists Chad Smith (above), drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of "SpongeBob SquarePants," as graduates.

The football team is 8-3 this year, with victories over Lockport (7-4) twice, Marist (7-3) and Deerfield (6-4). The Vikings lost to Sandburg (6-4) on the road, and Bolingbrook (11-1) and Lincoln-Way East (10-1) at home. Here's the full schedule (with last game first and home team in CAPS):

H-FLOSSMOOR 48, Lockport 7
H-Flossmoor 48, MARIST 28
SANDBURG 31, H-Flossmoor 28
H-FLOSSMOOR 56, Joliet West 19
H-Flossmoor 56, JOLIET 0
H-Flossmoor 35, LOCKPORT 0
Bolingbrook 41, H-FLOSSMOOR 28
Lincoln-Way East 38, H-FLOSSMOOR 21
H-Flossmoor 42, LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL 7
H-FLOSSMOOR 47, Deerfield 0
H-FLOSSMOOR 76 Senn 6

The Vikings are coached by Craig Buzea, who took over after H-F finished 1-8 in 2009. At quarterback is 6'6", 210 pound senior Tim Williams (above), who can throw to receivers Sean Jones, Gerald Butler, Allen Shelton, Kristopher Porche and Willie Ross when he isn't handing off to running backs Anfernee RobertsTaje Smith and Sheldon Jones (who also plays defensive back). The defense is led by lineman Devon Porter, linebackers Keith Carter and Keith Smith, and defensive back Thad Little.

Friday's game against Naperville Central is a tough call. The Redhawks are peaking at just the right time, but I picked the Vikings as my dark horse to face Bolingbrook next week. I'll say it's H-F in a squeaker.

BOWG prediction: Homewood-Flossmoor 21, Naperville Central 17.
