The Illinois high school football...

...game of the week is sure to be No. 1 Wheaton Warrenville South at No. 4 (and defending Class 8A state champs) Maine South. The Hawks defeated the Tigers when they last met, 29-13, in the 2004 Class 8A semifinals and I expect a similar outcome tonight in Park Ridge. I'll be paying particularly close attention to Mack Tracey, the senior wide receiver on WWS. (I don't know why; there's just something about that kid that I like.) As always, you can follow my live updates from the stands on Twitter.

In other games, Glenbrook South will travel to Stevenson, in what is being billed by the Trib as the My Fullback is Better than Your Fullback Bowl. It's also the home opener for the Patriots, whose head coach, Bill Mitz, is retiring after 28 seasons. He's led the Pats to 20 consecutive state playoffs, which is second only to Mt. Carmel's 23. Elsewhere, Loyola will be hosting Sullivan; Fenwick is at Notre Dame (the high school, not the University; the Fighting Irish are still playing an all-Division I schedule, although just barely); St. Rita will be at Morris; Mt. Carmel will play Lake Forest Academy at Gately Stadium in what is surely someone's idea of a cruel joke; and finally Amundsen is at Brother Rice.

If by Sunday you haven't watched enough high school and college football, you can still travel down to Hyde Park and watch Mayor Daley's alma mater, De La Salle lock horns with Hales Franciscan in the shadows of all those gargoyles at the University of Chicago. Or you can just follow my updates on Twitter.
