...who is just about the nicest person you'd ever want to meet. She happens to have a nephew who is accused of a crime that he's been found guilty of in the past. (Somehow she feels guilty about his current predicament.) When asked about it, she responds that "he's innocent." Again, she's a lovely person. But all I can think is, sure he is. As a friend of mine once told me, everyone in jail is innocent.
I thought of this when I read this piece on Liz Cheney, the former vice president's daughter. In her mind, water-boarding isn't torture. And her father is innocent of any war crimes. Sure he is.
