On Friday night I'll be seeing my old friend Scherps (and possibly my niece and her family) in Crystal Lake. The Gators (1-1) will be hosting the Trojans, who are quite possibly the most underrated 2-0 team in the state. The game will be a grudge match, as South (10-2 last year) defeated the Trojans (8-3), 10-7, in 2011 on the road. Cary-Grove will be out for revenge. (I just hope it isn't a blow-out.)
Here are the two teams' records so far:
Cary-Grove 49, St. Charles East 33
Cary-Grove 21, Lake Zurich 6
Marian Central 31, Crystal Lake South 0
Crystal Lake South 16, Crystal Lake Central 6

Saturday will bring another good contest. In 2011, the Roadrunners of Nazareth (10-2 last year) defeated the Red Hawks of Marist (7-3), 33-20, also on the road. But this year could be a different story, as Marist is one of the best teams in the state of Illinois. And Nazareth, also 2-0, has yet to be tested. Both of the Roadrunners' 2012 opponents are 0-2.
Here's the skinny:
Marist 35, St. Rita 25
Marist 49, Brother Rice 35
(Those are two good 1-1 teams.)
Nazareth 37, Proviso East 14
Nazareth 48, Julian 12
If the game is lopsided at the half, I'll execute my Plan B and go see if LT is giving the Hilltoppers a game in Glen Ellyn (although I wouldn't count on it). Last year, LT (8-5 in 2011) lost to Glenbard West (10-1), 31-3.
Here's a look at the two West Suburban Silver teams so far:
Stevenson 35, Lyons Township 28
Lyons Township 38, Downers Grove South 7
Glenbard West 28, Wheaton Warrenville South 7
Glenbard West 7, Willowbrook 0
(Willowbrook was 0-9 last year. They beat a team in Week One, Glenbard East, that was 1-8 last year, 42-41. Was that close game last week a fluke, or a bad omen for the Hilltoppers?)
