Dr. Gordon, who won tournaments in platform tennis, liked to wear his
raccoon coat, sit on his front porch and smoke a Meerschaum pipe. One
time, his wife recalled, his hair was mussed, and she asked him, “Who do
you think you are, Einstein?”
“I’m closer than most people,” he answered.
