What do Rick Santorum...

...and Mike Huckabee have in common?

They were both a couple of obscure Republican politicians who came out of nowhere to win the Iowa caucuses on a shoestring budget and ended up placing second in a weak field in the race for the GOP nomination. (Aren't the Republican races always a weak field?)

They're both social conservatives who were distrusted by fiscal conservatives (think Club for Growth) and their party's establishment. Their support came mostly from lower income, less well-educated voters in rural areas. Their campaigns appealed to evangelical Christians, creationists, homophobes, misogynists, home-schoolers and other assorted nutjobs.

They'll both end up making a ton of money from book deals, speaking engagements and gigs on Fox "News" talk shows. Politically, they'll never be heard from again.

Oh, and they both detest Mitt Romney.
