Raymond Aubrac, a leader...

...of the French Resistance in World War II, died at age 97. (A guy like that's gotta smoke a pipe, right?) 

“You know,” he said, “in life there are only three or four fundamental decisions to make. The rest is just luck.” 

Is that true? How much of a person's life is due to choices he's made, and how much to circumstances or sheer luck?
