If you listened...

...to the American bishops, you'd think Catholics were some kind of oppressed minority in the United States. From an article in the Times, "Catholic Bishops Urge Campaign for Religious Freedom" (my emphasis):

The nation’s Roman Catholic bishops issued a proclamation on Thursday calling for every priest, parish and layperson to participate in a “great national campaign” to defend religious liberty, which they said is “under attack, both at home and abroad.”

What? This is coming from the largest single religious denomination in the United States. Over 68 million Americans call themselves Catholic, one in every five. They operate tax-free in this country and count among their numbers almost a third of the members of Congress (again, the largest single denomination), six out of the nine Supreme Court justices and the vice president.

And they're seriously worried about religious liberty?
