...of Northwestern University, was the site of Evanston's thrilling upset victory over New Trier, 55-52, on Friday night.
The Wildkits, led by seniors Terrell Farmby (14 points), Leonard Garron (10 points) and Jordan Perrin, defeated their Central Suburban rival in overtime after having been ahead by ten points at the start of the fourth quarter.
The Trevians tied the contest in the last seconds of regulation play on a nifty three-point shot by junior Reid Berman (11 points).
My player of the game, however, would have to be another junior, Steven Cook (10 points), who seemed to be everywhere on defense and scored some crucial baskets for the Winnetka squad.
Welsh-Ryan was the perfect venue to watch this age-old rivalry between the two North Shore schools. I met up with my pal, Tom, in the bleachers and we were impressed by the number of students in attendance and the level of school spirit they displayed. Both schools are over one hundred years old and have been facing off in roundball for decades. Following a missed New Trier shot at the closing buzzer, the Evanston student body rushed the court in a burst of enthusiasm.
I'm starting to like this high school basketball stuff.
