...are desperately trying to persuade a marquee candidate to challenge the president in 2012. The two most often mentioned names (lately) are Governors Mitch Daniels of Indiana (left) and Chris Christie of New Jersey (right). While the former is thought to be giving it serious consideration (and may announce soon), the latter seems to think 2016 would be a better bet.
My prediction? The day one of them announces will be his high-water mark in the polls.
The GOP is banking on a repeat of 1992, when a little-known governor from Arkansas upset a sitting president on the back of a struggling economy. But first, the Republicans need a candidate -- a good one. And I don't see anyone out there who can beat this president.
