Any surprises last night?

Yeah, three. And all in 8A.

The magnitude of Barrington's win over Oak Park and River Forest, 39-15. (Can the Broncos beat Maine South next week?) And two come-from-behind victories, Stevenson's narrow margin over Lyons, 21-17. (Were the Patriots looking ahead to Loyola?) And Naperville Central's second-half shutout of Brother Rice, 34-21. (What happened to the Crusaders after intermission?)

Any surprises in store for us today? A few.

No. 9 Warren will give No. 8 Loyola a scare. (And I'll be there.)
Don't underestimate the Blue Devils.

No. 15 Fenwick will upset No. 2 Highland Park.
No. 14 Mount Carmel will upset No. 3 Batavia.
Would these two really be considered upsets?

No. 16 Boylan will give No. 1 Nazareth a scare.
The Titans have been here before.

No. 13 St. Viator will upset No. 4 Urban Prep/Englewood.
City schools have a rough time in the playoffs.

No. 15 Alleman will upset No. 2 St. Edward.
No. 7 Althoff will upset No. 2 Columbia.
These two "A" schools always seem to go deep in the playoffs.

No. 8 Aurora Christian will upset No. 1 Newman Central.
The Eagles are tough in the postseason.

No. 7 Byron will upset No. 2 Bowen.
No. 6 North Boone will upset No. 3 Harper.
See: City schools, above.

No. 7 Hales Franciscan will upset No. 2 Uplift.
Spartans played a tough Catholic League schedule.

No. 6 Princeville will upset No. 3 Hope Academy.
Country boys not to be taken lightly.

Check back tomorrow for a recap.
