Vollis Simpson, who created...

...dozens of pieces of "outsider" or "visionary" art only after he retired, died at age 94.

By the end of his life Mr. Simpson had become an art star. His 55-foot-tall, 45-foot-wide “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” (above) is on permanent display at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, and his works are part of several other collections, including the American Folk Art Museum in Manhattan.
