...will be Montini (1-1) at St. Rita (2-0) tomorrow night.
Why not Mount Carmel at Providence, or Loyola at Brother Rice? Those should be good contests, but, let's face it: we all know who's going to win, the Caravan and the Ramblers. (And it doesn't matter that they're both on the road.)
No, what interests me most about Montini at St. Rita is that, to the best of my knowledge (as Jerry Seinfeld would say), the Broncos have never played the Mustangs. (Great imagery, too, right?)
Montini, you will note, is ranked No. 11
in MaxPreps, No. 10 in the Trib and No. 16 in the Sun-Times. St. Rita,
meanwhile, is ranked No. 8 in both MaxPreps and the Trib and No. 12 in
the Sun-Times. (In the AP, Montini is ranked No. 1 in 5A and St. Rita is No. 3 in 7A.) Is any of that relevant? Probably not.
But, what I really want to know is: can the Lombard squad compete with the big, bad boys from the Catholic League Blue? (We're about to find out.)
To remind you, here are the two teams' games so far (home team in CAPS):
MAINE SOUTH 36, Montini 35
MONTINI 46, East St. Louis 32
ST. RITA 28, Simeon 26
ST. RITA 56, Dunbar 8
Who wins this one? I'm going to go with the home team.
