Ezra Klein has some interesting...

...statistics on guns in his blog today.

For openers, 70 percent of all homicides in the U.S. are committed with a firearm. And a  majority of those firearms are handguns.

Second, gun homicide rates in the United States have actually dropped 49 percent between 1993 and 2010 (while other types of gun violence have dropped 75 percent), but Americans don't seem to know it. Fully 56 percent of Americans believe gun crime is higher than 20 years ago and only 12 percent think it is lower.
