...of "Easy Rider" (1969), "Five Easy Pieces" (1970), above, "The Last Picture Show" (1971) and "Hearts and Minds" (1974) died at age 78.

Schneider was also a co-creator of the 1960s television show "The Monkees," which -- amazingly, for those of us who remember it -- received the 1967 Emmy Award for outstanding comedy series. (It's almost painful to watch now.) Music was good, though.
