In anticipation of tomorrow's historic...

...vote on health care, I can't help making another prediction. If the bill passes, as expected, it will begin a reversal in the Democrats' fortunes. Their poll numbers will turn around and they will outperform expectations in the midterms. The Republicans should gain seats in both houses, as usually happens for the party out of power, but their gains will be much less than anticipated. Look for the Democrats to retain control of both chambers and the GOP to engage in more soul-searching. I still think they have one more disastrous presidential election in them, in which they nominate someone (Sarah Palin?) from the base. Only after a drubbing on the order of a Goldwater, McGovern, or Mondale will the Republicans move back toward the center and rebuild their brand.
