I thought of another George Bush...

...after listening to Mitt Romney's speech last night, George H. W. Bush. Remember when he said, "Read my lips; no new taxes?" And I thought: Romney -- like the first President Bush -- would say and do just about anything to get elected.

Last night Romney said, among other silly things, that he would "repeal ObamaCare." Really? And go back to a time when insurance companies could drop clients when they got sick? When insurers wouldn't cover those with pre-existing conditions? Go back to a time when health care costs were spiraling out of control and more and more people were without coverage? Really?

Or would a President Romney repeal ObamaCare and replace it with ... what? RomneyCare? Isn't that the same thing? Wasn't that his signature achievement as governor of Massachusetts?

Mitt Romney reminds me of Bush 41 in another crucial way. He desperately wants to be president; he just doesn't know why.

And don't even get me started on all that nonsense about President Obama as a European socialist, or how a President Romney would "never apologize for America."

The man has no shame.
