In other games this weekend...

...Maine South defeated previously unbeaten Stevenson, 20-9. It was the sixth time that Maine South knocked Stevenson out of the playoffs since 2001.

Paul Preston (above) gained 131 yards on 18 carries and scored two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Hawks' defense forced two turnovers and sacked Patriot quarterback Kevin Earl seven times.

Homewood-Flossmoor beat Naperville North, 35-28. The Viking defense stopped Huskie quarterback Matt LaCosse at the line of scrimmage on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line with 25 seconds left.

Mount Carmel knocked off Lyons, 41-10. The Caravan advance to the semifinals for the 19th time in 25 seasons.

In Class 7A:

St. Rita blanked Carmel, 21-0. The Corsairs, who averaged 38 points a game this season, were shut out for the first time in nine years.

Wheaton Warrenville South ended Glenbard West's season, 40-20;
Belleville East eliminated Minooka, 21-17; and
Lake Zurich edged Simeon, 17-14.

In 5A:

Montini beat Marian Central, 24-10; and
Joliet Catholic fell to Peoria Richwoods, 17-14
