...pikers today with their ad in the New York Times for a "Quilted calfskin tote, $2,400," which looks oddly like a purse to me. Not to be outdone, however, SFA has an ad on the opposite page for Yves Saint Laurent. The copy says "This platform suede pump ($795) is the most popular shoe from the iconic fashion house." The bold type is in the ad; I didn't add it. If this is the most popular shoe, does that mean it's for the hoipolloi? Is this what the rich give to the "help" on Boxing Day? If so, what do they buy for themselves?
