A recent Lewin Group study...

...is often cited to make the argument that a "public option" would crowd out the private health insurers. The Lewin Group is part of a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, which owns the private insurer United Healthcare. It says it operates with "editorial independence," and maybe it does. But I had a smart boss once who told me that no one commissions a study without knowing the findings in advance. Remember that next time you hear the Lewin Group mentioned and ask yourself, "Are they a truly disinterested party, or do they have an agenda?"
