I keep reading about...

...how Sen. Chuck Hagel, then-Sen. Barack Obama and others were "wrong" about the 2007 "surge" in Iraq. (In fact, the neocons have been crowing about this for years.)

And it's kind of like someone focusing on Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson's lone rushing touchdown in the recent BCS championship game against Alabama. Sure, that was a great moment for Domers, but the Crimson Tide still crushed the Irish.

So whether or not the "surge" "worked" in 2007 is beside the point. The war was still a disaster for the United States. That's the important lesson here.
