...this morning, "State of the Race: Advantage, Obama," in Politico, and "Obama Outraises Romney For First Time in Months," in CNN, tell stories that I think may converge in the weeks ahead.
For some time now, political pros have been saying that the incumbent may be outspent for the first time in history. And that could still be the case. Wall Street, in particular, has been betting heavily on Governor Romney to win. But I've worked in the financial industry long enough to know that traders usually hedge their bets. (Usually. During the housing bubble, not so much.)
So if the president starts to look like a winner in the next month or so, don't be too surprised if some big money donors (read: Wall Street) start coming his way -- in a big way. After all, they're really not that political; and they're certainly not stupid.
