Charles E. Silberman, a writer...

...and editor at Fortune magazine, died at age 86. His obit is really not all that interesting, but I have to admit, I'm intrigued by the accompanying picture, above. How, exactly, did he get his picture taken staring off-camera and smoking a pipe?

"All right, Silberman, we need to get yer pitcher taken for the magazine."

"Okay, get on with it; I'm very busy today."

"Hold steady ... wait a minute! That's no good. We need a prop or somethin'. Have ya got a pen?"

"Sure."

"Nope. That's no good, either. How about that pipe over there?"

"That old thing? I haven't smoked it in years."

"Just put it in your mouth. Nope; still not right. Why don'cha try turnin' yer head and lookin' out the window ... perfect! Oh, yeah; that's a keeper!"

"Are you done? Good. Now beat it!"
