...because I didn't think there was much to write about.
Ezra Klein, one of my favorite bloggers, felt differently. He had this to say in a post about the demise of Newsweek (do people still read Newsweek?):
To give an example, think of all that's going on this week: The car bomber. The BP oil spill. Greece's meltdown. The stomach-churning drop in the Dow. Financial-regulation reform. Elections in Britain. Supreme Court politics. A bill to strip suspected terrorists of their citizenship. Even for a news junkie, that's a lot.
Let's take those one at a time.
The car bomber. It didn't explode, he was caught, and he's talking.
The BP oil spill. Like the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989 and Katrina a few years ago, the current spill won't affect 95% of the population.
Greece's meltdown. Happens every few years in the financial markets; think Russia, Thailand, and Argentina for starters. And you know what? The earth continued to turn on its axis.
The stomach-churning drop in the Dow. The markets are volatile and will probably go right back up next week. (Did you see the jobs number today?) Besides, in percentage terms it was nothing like the Crash of '87.
Financial regulation reform. Ongoing. Wake me when it's over.
Elections in Britain. Didn't settle anything.
Supreme Court politics. The big story today was that President Obama would announce Elena Kagan as his choice on Monday. Big deal; she's been the front-runner on Intrade for weeks.
A bill to strip suspected terrorists of their citizenship. Who by now doesn't know that John McCain and Joe Lieberman are a couple of jackasses?
Let me add one more.
The former president of Loyola Academy was removed from active ministry after he admitted having an "inappropriate relationship" with a student. A Catholic priest in trouble for sexual misconduct? Shocker!
I'll try to do better next week.
